"Hey Craig. My wife and I accumulated $28,000 in credit card debt over the last couple of years across four different cards. A lender just pre-approved us for a $28,000 personal consolidation loan at 11% interest. It drops our total monthly payment by almost $350 and cuts our interest rate in half from 24%. Is taking this consolidation loan a smart shortcut to clear the cards and get our budget back on track?" — Brian, Dallas, TX
Brian, do not sign that paperwork. It sounds like a massive lifesaver on paper, but debt consolidation loans are one of the biggest psychological traps in the entire personal finance industry. They promise you relief, but in reality, they just set you up for a much bigger crash down the road. Here is the absolute raw truth about consolidation loans: You Are Shuffling the Shells, Not Paying Off Debt: Moving debt from four credit cards into one single personal loan does not actually eliminate a single dime of what you owe. It just moves the address of the debt. You did not pay off $28,000; you just took out a brand new $28,000 loan. The False Sense of Victory: This is the deadliest part. The moment that consolidation loan pays off your credit cards, your card balances hit $0. You feel an immediate sense of relief and think you won. But because you never fixed the underlying spending behavior, eight out of ten people who take out a consolidation loan end up running those credit cards right back up within 18 to 24 months. Now they have $28,000 in credit card debt and an 11% personal loan hanging around their necks. Stretching out the Sentence: Consolidation loans often drop your monthly payment not just because of the lower interest rate, but because they stretch the timeline out over five or seven years. You end up staying in debt significantly longer and paying thousands more in total interest than if you just attacked the cards aggressively right now. Here is your exact execution strategy. First, keep your hands off the personal loan. Decline the offer today. Second, take a pair of scissors tonight, sit down with your wife, and physically cut up all four credit cards. You need to kill the habit before you can fix the math. Third, line up those four cards from the smallest balance to the largest balance regardless of interest rate. Lock in a tight budget, pay the absolute minimum on the top three, and throw every single extra dollar—from overtime, side hustles, or cutting subscriptions—at the smallest balance until it hits zero. Once that first card dies, roll that entire payment into card number two.
When you feel the pain of paying off $28,000 with your own blood, sweat, and hard-earned income, you fix the behavior forever. You build real discipline that no bank loan can ever give you. Keep your money on the roadmap. Keep the debt snowball rolling.

Credit card APR is sitting at a record-high 22.30% right now — that means every dollar you carry on a card is getting absolutely torched by interest, so take whatever cash you have sitting idle and throw it at that balance today, not next payday. |

The 30-year mortgage rate is trending down toward 6.66% — if you bought or refinanced when rates were above 7%, it costs you nothing to call your lender this week and ask whether a refinance pencils out yet. |

THE MILLIONAIRE MANUAL
THE RECOVERY TRAP: How Scammers Target You Twice
Today we are talking about the absolute lowest of the low. You already know to watch out for the classic scams but there is a completely different game being played right now against people who have already been victims. It is called a refund and recovery scam. I am here to give you the absolute raw truth. If you or a family member already lost money to a scam there are criminals actively buying your name on a list just so they can target you a second time. Today we are completely shutting it down.
Let's look at exactly how this brutal trap works. These scammers contact you out of the blue and promise they can help get your stolen money back or recover a prize you never received. To sound completely official and trustworthy they will pretend to be from a law firm a consumer advocacy group or even a government agency like the FTC. They build your trust and then they drop the hammer. They will tell you that you just need to pay a small retainer fee or a processing charge to release your funds. Or they will ask for your bank account information so they can supposedly deposit your refund directly. It is all a complete lie. If you pay that fee they steal your money a second time. If you hand over your banking info they completely steal your identity.
The Move: Your execution strategy is all about building an absolute physical wall around your personal information and never paying for a promise. Here is exactly how you execute this piece of the roadmap: 1. Never Pay Upfront: Neither real government agencies nor legitimate organizations will ever ask you for money or financial information in exchange for helping you get a refund. If someone asks for an administrative charge to get your scammed money back they are a scammer. Period. 2. Verify Everything: Do not trust a single person who contacts you out of nowhere claiming they can recover your cash. If someone claims to be from a government agency look up that agency's real contact information yourself. Absolutely never use the phone number or the link that the caller gives you. 3. Do Your Own Research: If a company contacts you about a refund search their exact name online and add words like scam or complaint or review. The absolute truth will show up very quickly.
Building a financial fortress means fiercely protecting the wealth you are building. Do not let the desperation of losing money once make you a victim twice. If you get scammed take real steps to reverse the transaction with your bank and report it directly to the real FTC and your state attorney general. Keep your guard completely up and keep your money on the roadmap.

THE WATER COOLER
The Big Three
#1: US and Japan Team Up to Steady the Dollar's Value
The US and Japan made a rare joint move to support Japan's currency, the yen, which has been losing value fast. Both governments said they are ready to step in again if needed.
| • |
The Raw Truth: When foreign currencies get shaky, it ripples straight into what you pay for imported goods — electronics, car parts, groceries. A weaker yen also puts pressure on global trade deals that affect American jobs in manufacturing and shipping. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes money stuff that quietly shows up in your monthly budget before you even realize what hit you. |
#2: Your Credit Score Is Costing You More Than You Think
A low credit score does not just mean a higher interest rate on a loan — it affects your car insurance premiums, apartment applications, and even some job offers. The gap between a good score and a bad one can cost thousands of dollars a year.
| • |
The Raw Truth: If you are already stretched thin, a bad credit score is like a tax you pay every single month on top of everything else. It punishes you for being broke by making everything more expensive — the exact opposite of what you need when you are trying to climb out. Cleaning up your credit is not glamorous work, but it is one of the fastest ways to stop the bleeding and free up real money in your real life. |
#3: Retirees Burning Through Cash on One Big Expense
A new report shows that US retirees are spending nearly one out of every three dollars on a single category of expenses, which is quietly draining retirement savings faster than most people plan for.
| • |
The Raw Truth: If you are years away from retirement, this is your warning shot — because whatever that expense is, it does not shrink on its own just because you stop working. Most people build a retirement number in their head without accounting for the one thing that will eat the biggest chunk of it. Planning for this now, while you still have income coming in, is the difference between a retirement that feels like freedom and one that feels like a second job. |

The Heavy Hitters — Working Hard for You Today:
| • |
Boeing Company (The) (BA) 🟢 Up 8.03% — After more than eight years of waiting, U.S. regulators finally gave Boeing the green light to fly and sell its 737 MAX 7 jet. Boeing makes the planes you board at the airport — they build some of the most common commercial aircraft in the sky. |
| • |
Meta Platforms (META) 🟢 Up 6.02% — Big Tech had a strong week last week and investors are still riding that wave into Monday. Meta runs Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — basically the apps where you scroll, share photos, and message your family. |
| • |
Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) 🟢 Up 4.93% — Microsoft posted strong numbers last week and Wall Street is still cheering about it today. They make Windows, Xbox, and Teams — the software running on most work computers and a lot of living rooms too. |
| • |
Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) 🟢 Up 4.88% — Other Big Tech companies had a great week with their recent results, and that good mood is lifting Alphabet right along with them. They run Google search and YouTube — pretty much the two places the whole internet starts. |
| • |
Amazon.com (AMZN) 🟢 Up 4.58% — Amazon had a strong showing last week and today its stock crossed a milestone that has Wall Street buzzing. They deliver packages to your door, run a massive chunk of the internet behind the scenes, and stream movies through Prime Video. |
The Benchwarmers — Having a Tough Day (But Still on Your Team):
| • |
Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) 🔴 Down 2.39% — Investors are watching Eli Lilly closely as it heads into its own earnings report and the stock is pulling back a bit ahead of that moment. They make some of the most talked-about weight-loss and diabetes drugs on the market right now. |
| • |
AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) 🔴 Down 2.33% — A report out today flagged that AbbVie is leaning heavily on just one drug — called Skyrizi — for a huge chunk of its future money, and that concentration is making investors nervous. They make prescription drugs you see advertised on TV, including treatments for arthritis and skin conditions like psoriasis. |
| • |
Merck & Company (MRK) 🔴 Down 1.87% — Merck held an investor event today to talk up its HIV treatment drugs as a big future growth area, but the market did not get excited enough to push the stock higher. They make prescription medicines you have probably heard of, including the cancer drug Keytruda. |
| • |
Chevron Corporation (CVX) 🔴 Down 1.85% — Oil prices dropped sharply today after Trump pulled back from plans to attack Iran, and that is bad news for an oil company's bottom line. Chevron pumps oil and gas out of the ground and sells it — they are one of the biggest energy companies behind the gas prices you see at the pump. |
| • |
Apple Inc. (AAPL) 🔴 Down 1.78% — Apple is drifting along with the broader market today with no major company-specific news pushing it in either direction. They make the iPhone in your pocket, the Mac on your desk, and the AirPods in your ears. |
Takeaway: Five companies are winning today. Five are hurting. Your index fund holds all 500. You never have to pick the right one. You just have to stay in. That is the whole game.

The Wacky Corner
In 1998, a company called Cendant — formed just months earlier from the merger of HFS Incorporated and CUC International — discovered that CUC had been quietly cooking its books for years, inflating earnings by hundreds of millions of dollars to make the company look more profitable than it actually was. When the fraud came out in April of that year, Cendant's stock dropped 46 percent in a single day, wiping out about fourteen billion dollars in shareholder value before most people had finished their morning coffee. The CEO of CUC, Walter Forbes, had built a membership-services empire selling discount clubs for hotels, cars, and shopping — real bread-and-butter stuff that sounded almost boring — and yet underneath it all the numbers were just fiction. Forbes eventually went to prison, and thousands of regular employees and everyday investors paid the price for a fraud they had absolutely nothing to do with. The whole ugly thing got buried fast because the dot-com party was cranking up and Wall Street had shinier things to chase.
Lesson: Lesson: A company that looks boring but tells the truth beats a company that looks brilliant but lies — own the honest ones and never chase the story.
